Whenever you attempt something new, there is a learning period involved. You’ll have to get used to a few new routines, and you’ll make a few mistakes. Before you start on your Invisalign journey, take a look at the top 3 big mistakes that most Invisalign users have made at some point. That way, you can take precautions to avoid those problems yourself.

#1. Throwing the Trays Away

Imagine that you have gone out to lunch with friends. Your aligners are so comfortable that they feel like a part of your mouth, so perhaps you forgot to bring along their container. Instead, you slip them out before eating and wrap them discreetly in a napkin. Unfortunately, when lunch is over, you stack the napkin on top of your other waste items and take it over to the trash can. You toss the waste in and go on your way. Not until later do you realise your mistake— your expensive aligners were in the napkin that you threw away!

Make sure you keep a special container in your handbag, book bag, or laptop bag. That way, you’ll always have a secure place to store your trays when they’re not in your mouth. If you don’t carry a backpack or computer bag with you, get a plastic bag and write your name and number on it. Keep it folded up in your pocket, and use it to store your aligners. If they are lost, someone may find the bag and contact you.

#2. Leaving the Trays Out Too Long

When you’re doing Invisalign treatment, you must wear your aligners for 20-22 hours every day. That leaves just 2-4 hours for eating and drinking anything besides water, and for participating in contact sports or playing wind instruments. It may be tempting to leave your trays out for the morning while you’re at work so you can sip your coffee, or to skip putting them in overnight. However, if you want to get the most benefit for your money and achieve your smile makeover quickly, you need to persevere and wear the trays for the recommended amount of time each day.

#3. Forgetting to Clean the Aligners

The human mouth is full of bacteria. It’s only natural that your Invisalign clear aligners will pick up some of that bacteria over time, even if you’re brushing and flossing your teeth regularly. Ask your dentist in Singapore about the best way to clean your aligners. You could use regular toothpaste to clean the aligners or occasionally soak the trays in mouthwash or another recommended solution to eliminate odour, minimise staining, and remove bacteria.
