Orchard Scott Dental Pte.Ltd.

When you come to Orchard Scotts Dental for a Smile Makeover, we consider the ABCs of the smile – alignment, brightness, and contours – so the more applied treatments are Invisalign for teeth straightening, teeth whitening, and porcelain veneers. We mostly prescribe Invisalign for alignment issues when appropriate because of its many benefits. Not only is Invisalign invisible, but it’s also incredibly comfortable and makes eating much easier than with traditional braces.

The cost of Invisalign and the treatment duration can be affected by how well you take care of them.  Even though Invisalign is easier to use and requires less maintenance than traditional braces, it still requires proper care and hygiene for the best outcome.

Here are a few tips on how to care for your Invisalign:

Regular Monitoring

An essential part of the treatment process is to regularly get new sets of Invisalign aligners.  Depending on what was prescribes, you will usually wear each set of your aligners for about one to two weeks.  Orchard Scotts Dental uses the Dental Monitoring System to monitor customer’s progress, which the client will submit using the Dental Monitoring app.  Dental Monitoring itself uses AI to track your teeth’s movement and progress.

The circuit breaker period has closed many services that dental clinics provide except for emergency and essential services.  However, with Invisalign, the chances of you requiring emergency visits are usually much lower.  If you properly care for your Invisalign during this circuit breaker period, you can once again return to the dentist for regular physical check ups.

Cleaning Your Invisalign Aligners

You’ll need to rinse your Invisalign aligners every single time you take them out of your mouth.  This will help rinse away all of the bacteria, food particles, and saliva that accumulates while you’re wearing them.  Make sure that you rinse them thoroughly under running water in order to clean them entirely.  You should also brush them whenever you take them out, but do so carefully as brushing too hard may scratch your Invisalign.

You should soak your aligners regularly for a deeper clean.  Invisalign has specialized cleaning crystals that they offer for you to soak your aligners in and properly clean them.  If you like, you can use a clear, anti-bacterial soft soap to clean away the bacteria and plaque from your aligners.

But it’s not just your Invisalign that needs to be cleaned—your teeth are just as important.  Make sure you’re regularly brushing and flossing to keep plaque and bacteria from building up underneath your aligners.  By keeping your teeth and your Invisalign clean, you can keep your teeth and gums healthy while straightening your teeth.

What Not To Do

There are several things you’ll want to avoid when using Invisalign aligners.  Don’t skip a day when using them, and try not to be careless or rough with them.  Your Invisalign may crack or break if you pull them out of your mouth carelessly.  You should avoid eating or drinking when wearing your Invisalign, because foods and certain coloured drinks can cause your aligners to stain or take on a bad smell.  If you need to drink while wearing your Invisalign, try to drink water only.

You also want to avoid using toothpaste while you’re wearing your aligners, because it can damage them.  You definitely want to brush the aligners to help clean them, but make sure you’re brushing them without using toothpaste.  And if you’re cleaning the aligners with soap, make sure it’s unscented and colourless.  Coloured or scented soap can easily stain your aligners.

Living Your Life With Invisalign

You can care for your aligners without allowing them to get in the way of living.  You don’t have to stop eating your favourite foods or doing your favourite activities.  You can do any activity while wearing them because they’re virtually invisible, and simply take out your aligners when you need to eat or drink and brush them before putting them back in.

You should wear your aligners for about 20-22 hours a day in order to achieve the best results, so as long as you’re taking good care of them through these tips, you should be able to make them last until you’re able to schedule regular appointments again.  And don’t forget, when you start wearing a new set of aligners, they may feel a little uncomfortable for a couple of days.

You can still chew gum when wearing Invisalign, but make sure to remove your Invisalign first.  If you find yourself with bad breath, your trays may be building up bacteria or plaque, so make sure to rinse and clean them as soon as you take them out before plaque has a chance to set in.
